OPEN GYM & BACKHANDSPRING CLINICS

During vacation weeks (GU follows the Bristol School Systems dates), back hand spring clinics are offered along with Open Workouts. Back handspring clinics are for 1 hour. Open workouts are for 2 hours. Staff supervise all clinics and workouts. Children are not left on their own. Look for monthly newsletters for updated information and the new ticker on the Welcome page.

OLYMPIC DAY

WHAT IS THE GYMNASTICS UNLIMITED OLYMPICS?

Olympic Day gives our Level 3-6 Class students and our Tiny Tumbler/ Pre team gymnasts an opportunity to perform routines in a fun competitive environment. They work these routines during class time. They may perform on one event or all four- Beam, Floor, Vault and Bars. A ribbon is earned on each event performed along with a participation medal. Coaches are available to guide and help spot gymnasts through out the routines.

This is a great opportunity to perform gymnastic routines in a fun competitive atmosphere. This event will be run similar to USAG Competitive Gymnastic Meet.

WHEN: FALL and SPRING
WHERE: Gymnastics Unlimited
COST: $15 –pay when registering in the office
ATTIRE: Class students can wear any leotard. Tiny Tumblers and Pre team gymnasts are to wear their team leotard.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE: This is open to all Students in the Levels 3-6 Classes (Tues/Thus 5:15 & 7:00, Fri 4:00 & Sat 11:45-1:15), Tiny Tumblers and Pre–Team and Competitive Level 4 members. SIGN UP ARE TAKEN IN THE OFFICE.

PARENT OBSERVATIONS WEEK

A monitor is set-up in the foyer for observing your child during class time. Having parents in the gym on a daily basis are distracting for the children and pose a safety hazard-especially on equipment. However, three times a year parents are invited to watch their child's progress inside the gym. Observation Weeks are in Nov, March and May. Seats are set up to accommodate everyone. Please make arrangements for siblings on observation week. Watch the monthly calendars for the dates

SKILL EVALUATIONS

At GU we have developed a Skill Evaluation for our students. This is NOT a competition or a PASS/FAIL TEST but rather a tangible tool by which children and parents can monitor skill performance. Each child is an individual and will progress at their own pace. Children have strengths and weaknesses in different areas of coordination and muscular ability. Weak areas are NOT considered failures but areas that need more practice. With repetitive practice comes strength and improvement. AS ALWAYS, THE STAFF AT GYMNASTICS UNLIMITED strive to create an environment where your child's self-esteem is our first priority.

As students master skills they are checked off as completed on their Skill Poster. Posters are handed out to each student at their End of the Year Exhibition. Skills evaluations are conducted formally twice a year. The weeks of skill evaluations will be posted on the monthly calendars however skills can checked off at any time during the year.

There are 3 skill levels in Preschool: LEVELS A,B,C
There are 6 skill levels in School-age: LEVELS 1,2,3,4,5,6

A sample of the skill level test sheets are posted on the bulletin board in the foyer. Please take a look. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any of your child's coaches for more information

BINGO WEEK

During Bingo week each student receives a Bingo card with gymnastic skill listed in place of numbers. During class students who can perform a skill correctly gets to fill in the appropriate matching square. Students completing bingo get to pick a special prize from the prize box. It is a week of fun!!

YEAR END CLASS EXHIBITIONS

The last class of the year, family & friends are invited to come & watch children perform individual routines on equipment and group routines on Floor Exercise and Vaulting. Each year a special theme is chosen. Decorations and music make for an extra special last class. Extra seating is made available. Tickets are not sold -there is no charge! The exhibitions take place at GU during your child regularly scheduled CLASS. Watch monthly calendars for more information
